Edumacation

Being in the field of education, Girl-E knows that vast amounts of learning take place outside of a structured schooling environment, and meaningful learning can be life-long. For example, this weekend was quite developmentally enriching, in that she learned all of the following:

- 72% of the Earth's surface is covered in gigantic piles of snow.

- Tights and longjohns and windpants worn simultaneously provide notably better protection than longjohns and jeans.

- Contrary to popular belief, you can ski down stairs.

- Girls raised in Southern California should think very carefully before marrying boys from New England, no matter how cute they are.

- If foolish enough to marry said New England boy, girls raised in Southern California should be absolutely certain that this boy experiences some sort of inexplicably twisted joy from shovelling not only one's own sidewalk, but all the way down the street.

- Large trucks going down steep hills during a vicious snow storm can not physically stop, even if you have the green light, moron.

- No matter how beautiful it is, a snowflake in the eyeball hurts like a mother fucker.

- Yoga rules.

Boston: let's drop the pretense. I have seen the center of your conflicted soul. I know that despite your blustering pride, your seeming complacency, your Blueblood ways, you're just a little bit annoyed to be part of, you know, dour... [Read More]

Yeah, it's all about the teachable moment.
I'd like to add the following:

- It's possible to forget everything you know about snow, including the entire concept of boots, if you haven't lived in it for five years. Even if you spent about 95% of your time in those five years making fun of people who have never lived in snow.

I'm doing whatever I come across, trying to figure out all the kinds. Recently going to free HU classes and using a home DVD. I want to get into Power/Ashtanga, prolly going to a class in Cambridge tomorrow. That was for Kat, so all you who read this and are uninterested, shut up.

Power class today was rockin'. I like my DVDs except they're a little slow (I'm completely unflexible and uncoordinated and 100% novice, but I still like to get my heartrate up). So let me know how MTV is! Do you get to do yoga to Dire Straits?

I have some Lilias tapes myself, and I used to go to a power yoga-type class at UCSB. Lilias is like learning yoga from one's mom, which can be good or bad depending on what sort of experience you're trying to have. I find her comforting, but I think another person might just find her annoyingly slow. The class at UCSB was way more crunchy and also more of a workout, but I liked it a lot too.
